This summer, Ben Battison, a supervisor for FGH Security, is climbing Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, in order to raise funds for the charity, Dig Deep.
In line with the company’s value: ‘Give Something Back’, FGH security are supporting Ben by providing his kit. This includes a custom t-shirt featuring the FGH security and Dig Deep charity logos, and also Craghoppers Treklite Carbon Walking poles. The total value is just over £129.
The money raised by Ben will support Dig Deep with their goals. These include providing clean water and sanitation for schools and communities in East Africa.
The charity, Dig Deep, operates projects in Kenya, where 8 out of 10 people lack access to clean water. Their work mainly focuses on three T’s. The first T, which stands for taps, focuses on providing a sustainable solution to rainwater harvesting for safe, clean water. The second T stands for toilets. This references the charity’s goal of building latrines in schools for hygienic and private toilet use. The final T, training, reflects the charity’s focus on providing teachers and community members with training in health and hygiene. By working on these three T’s in unison, Dig Deep aims to reduce disease, whilst also having a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children. Ben joined FGH security in July 2021, through the student sponsorship scheme from Lancaster University Rugby Union Club. Since joining, he has progressed massively in the company. When he started he was primarily based at the local student club, The Sugarhouse, however, he has recently completed his supervisor training for events in Manchester. This is where he will be working throughout the summer.
