April Fools- FGH at the Suez Canal

At FGH we have always prided ourselves on our innovative approach to Keeping People Safe – and how it seems we are extending this attitude to vessels too. We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to supply 300 Security Officers to the Suez Canal. In light of recent events, our skills are needed to patrol the canal edge and monitor for wayward ships.

On Wednesday our Managing Director, Peter Harrison, was walking past the Egyptian embassy on his way to greet our new London team. One of the members of the embassy approached him having seen the security logo on his shirt and asked him to come inside for a chat. Although a little taken aback Pete attended an impromptu meeting in the embassy!

The embassy was looking for a company to take over the patrolling and guarding of the Suez canal. In light of recent events, it seems that a professional and approachable company were needed to ensure nothing like the recent issue happens again. We are thrilled to be taking on this exciting new challenge.

When discussing our approach to this contract we concluded that the biggest issue would be trying to control technology, Peter quoted ‘one of the hurdles we envisioned was how to ensure that we could alert and ships who were approaching the canal edge. Normal approaches would be sirens or loudhailers- however, we want to go further than this. Why risk another embarrassing incident due to a flat battery or a defaulting mechanism? What is the one failsafe and age old way to ward people about danger? Shouting!’.

And so the idea was born. Our Operations Director, Ben Knott was swiftly drawing up the plans for how we could utilise the human voicebox to help us on this deployment. He stated ‘I did some online research and found a man who after much practice could effectively emanate the sound of a siren. I have decided to launch a job that requires a similar skill set. Our interactive recruitment process allows us to vet peoples siren calls in a COVID safe manner. We look forward to welcoming the successful applicants to the team’.

So do you think you have what it takes to be a part of this groundbreaking deployment? Do you have an inner siren waiting to be released? You will be joining a Times Top 100 employer and using your voice to Keep People Safe.
