Second Clash of the FGH Titans – The FGH Cup

FGH sponsored rugby union team Lancaster University made their way to Broughton Park yesterday to play Salford University, who are our other FGH sponsored rugby union team, for the second time this season. Both teams play in the BUCS Rugby Union 2014-2015 – Northern 3A and in the lead up to this second encounter the players had christened the game ‘The FGH Cup’. The game was also streamed live by Lancaster University which meant that the other staff members who work with the players on both teams who currently work for us could watch the game.

To say the pitch itself at Broughton Park was muddy would be an understatement and both teams found it hard to drive in the scrums and mauls, which was the complete opposite of when the teams first met and played on Lancaster’s artificial pitches. Following substantial pressure Salford opened the scoring and then through controlling the centre of the pitch dominated most of the game to win 31-0 (with Dom West, their captain, kicking 100% of the conversions). Whilst the score line isn’t flattering to Lancaster they still played very well and put in an excellent performance.

Dave Hassall (FGH Marketing Manager) watched the game and again presented his own informal FGH awards. John Parker (Salford) was presented with ‘Man of the Match’ accolades following standout performance at number 8. “It was a fantastic game to watch and both clubs really did themselves and the company proud. At one point I actually thought the referee might make one team turn their shirts inside out at half time because both teams were covered in so much mud. The main thing for me though was that the atmosphere and camaraderie was fantastic between both teams and it’s great to be working with players that represent us so well both on and off the pitch. I also though the idea to establish the FGH Cup was a great idea and I’ve been told that the trophy that Lancaster presented after the game is going to take pride of place in Salford Student Union’s trophy cabinet. Well done to both teams”
